Being a cord-cutter means cutting a certain kind of cord: your cable or satellite cord. To do that without losing all your entertainment, though, you’ll need to hold onto a different cord: the one that connects you to the internet. Choosing the right internet provider is very important, so we’re going to talk about Cox. What kind of internet speeds can you get from Cox? How much does Cox internet cost? Do you have to sign a contract with Cox, and what sort of cancellation policy does Cox internet have? You have questions and we have answers. Here's our complete guide to Cox internet-only plans.

Cox Internet Speeds and Features

Savvy cord-cutters know they need certain internet speeds to enjoy live and on-demand video streaming, especially on multiple devices. That’s why we’ve covered internet speeds here before. What internet speeds does Cox offer? The selection is decent!

  • Go Fast: Up to 100 Mbps
  • Go Faster: Up to 250 Mbps
  • Go Even Faster: Up to 500 Mbps
  • Go Super Fast: Up to 1 Gbps
  • Go Beyond Fast: Up to 2 Gbps

That’s a pretty wide range of speeds. Some of the slower speeds may not be enough for multiple HD streams (or a single 4K stream) on services such as Netflix and Sling TV, so make sure you invest in internet service that’s fast enough.

Like all internet providers, Cox’s plan availability varies by location. You may have different options for internet speeds depending on where you live.

Cox Availability: Can I Get Cox?

If you want to get Cox internet, you’ll need to be in an area Cox serves. The company’s service area covers specific regions in 19 states across the U.S. Enter your ZIP code on the right to see if Cox is available at your address.

Cox Contracts

Like most internet service providers, Cox wants you to sign a long-term agreement. Signing a contract with Cox will give you a discounted rate on your internet (usually for the first 12 months), but it will also place some conditions on your relationship with Cox you’ll want to be aware of.

You should read your Cox contract carefully. It will outline things such as equipment surcharges and late-payment penalties. It will also explain the Cox cancellation policy, which may include an early termination fee.

Cox Cancellation Policy

When you cancel Cox, you’ll pay a prorated price for the portion of the payment period that passes until Cox completely processes your return. You’ll also have to return any equipment you rented from Cox, and failing to do so will lead to more charges.

If you cancel Cox during your initial contract, the company will likely charge you a cancellation fee. Check your plan details for specifics, but most of Cox’s contracts carry early termination fees as high as $120.

Many of Cox’s plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you cancel within that period, Cox will refund basic installation charges and your monthly payment, and you will not be charged a termination fee. Check the specifics for your plan though.
